Review: NZXT Kraken X40 and X60

Jan

The AiO (all-in-one) closed-loop CPU cooler scene has exploded the past few years. Gone are the days of needing to spend almost as much on a water cooling setup as your rig to get better-than-air CPU cooling performance. The main player in the AiO game, Asetek, have been manufacturing AiO units for most major OEM's for quite some time now. The latest is a collaboration with leading PC components company NZXT. This fusion or two greats has left us with the Kraken X40 and Kraken X60 AiO CPU coolers. These coolers are the first AiO units on the market to use 140mm fans rather than the long-standard 120mm. They retail for $99.99 and $136.99, respectively and carry a 2-year warranty. NZXT was kind enough to send us an X40 and an X60 to review for you guys, so lets check them out.

They were kind enough to send us one of their latest models, the ETS-T40-VD to check out, so let's get to it!

Fans are an essential part of computing these days. Long gone are the silent passively-cooled Pentiums of yester-year. Today's computers require lots of cooling, but with lots of cooling typically comes lots of noise. Tehre are exsceptions to this rule though, such as the Lepa LP70D12R fans we'll be taking a look at today. Can airflow and silence really coexist? Read on to find out.

Review: Upgrade Industries Board-X

AVR development boards are everywhere these days. Thanks to the Arduino we’ve seen a huge explosion in hobbyist electronics and the like. New companies have come out with “Arduino killers” or simply Arduino clones. Others have taken the Arduino’s footprint and created boards with other chips (Microchip ChipKIT’s for example) to make use of the extensive market for Arduino shields that are already available. Why reinvent the wheel right? Some companies however do something completely different. Enter Upgrade Industries and their Board-X AVR development platform. Let's take a closer look at the Board-X now.
